Social impact

Kazi Shahid Foundation

The part of our work that was never meant to turn a profit.

Core capabilities

Built to do a few things exceptionally well

Interest-free cattle lending, rural schooling and healthcare across northern Bangladesh.

The Kazi Shahid Foundation lends cattle, not money, and charges no interest on either. A household receives an animal, keeps the milk and the calves, and returns the value when it can afford to — at which point the same value goes to the next household.

Around that sit schools, clinics and women’s savings groups in the districts where the group farms. It is funded by the businesses, and it owns ULAB.

  • Interest-free cattle lending

Livestock advanced to rural households with no interest and no collateral.

  • Rural schooling

Primary schools and stipends in the districts around our estates.

  • Primary healthcare

Mobile clinics, maternal care and seasonal health camps.

  • Women’s livelihood groups

Savings groups and skills training that keep the income inside the household.
